What We Do

WHAT WE DO

We bring people in need together with people who want to help. We provide the framework that turns compassion into action.

The issue can seem overwhelming and individuals may feel powerless to change the lives of people in poverty. Working with L’Eau Bayou together can provide housing, education jobs impacting neighborhoods in need of revitalization. We mentor at-risk elderly and families. We teach financial literacy. We help find jobs and build affordable housing. We create programs to meet specific needs in our communities.

What we do

We bring people in need together with people who want to help. We provide the framework that turns compassion into action.

Working with L’ Eau Bayou Foundation together, we can provide housing, education, job training impacting neighborhoods in need of revitalization. We mentor at-risk left behind elderly and families. We teach life skills to potential business owners, homeowners through financial literacy. We create programs to meet specific needs in our communities.

More than half of all adults in America today say they have made at least one trade-off in order to cover their rent. Such trade-offs may include taking second jobs, cutting back on health care and healthy food, moving to less safe neighborhoods.

  • Housing instability — including frequent moves, overcrowding, and the threat of eviction or foreclosure — creates stress, depression, and hopelessness for far too many families.
  • Adults living in housing that they struggle to afford often describe themselves as less healthy, and the well-being and development of thousands of our children is compromised by living in insecure housing.

Our community here in Amarillo, Texas is in need to such a point it is at crises level and getting worse with the increase of homeless apparent on the streets.

In these circumstances — and in many others brought about by various policies, laws, and systems —  has created a crisis where the housing stock is over 30 years old and dire need of replacement.

  • In response to the ever-growing need for housing in our community L’ Eau Bayou Foundation works in many ways: new construction, small loans for incremental building, help to provide education to tenants in all aspect of life experiences, provide first-time jobs to young adults.
  • A tenant relationship with L’ Eau Bayou Foundation means the tenant has a stable place to live and to spend time with loved ones. A decent roof over their heads establishes their home as a place that protects — instead of endangering — their health.

L’ Eau Bayou Foundation works with elderly, families left behind to help them acquire the access, skills and financial education necessary for them to be successful tenants, homeowners ad future business owners. By partnering with us, families seize the opportunity and possibility that decent, affordable housing represents. Through shelter, through education, we empower.
